Information and Consent

Information: As part of your participation in navigate, you are invited to participate in a research study about how people interact with the GATE website. This research is conducted by Professor Sarah Kaplan of the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and Professor Cassandra Chambers at Bocconi University. As a participant, information about your activity related to the naviGATE portal will be collected, including any social media posts in which you tag or mention GATE. This data will be used in future research studies to examine how individuals engage with information about social causes.

Voluntary Participation:  Your participation in this research is entirely voluntary. You may choose not to participate or may withdraw from this study up until the termination of the study without penalty and without any effect.

Benefits: The benefits that may be expected from the study are: (a) reading and learning about social issues, economic trends, and policy initiatives, (b) enjoying the experience of sharing your opinions, and (c) having an opportunity to contribute to social scientific research aimed at enhancing the understanding of a variety of factors in shaping better public policies and management practices within organizations.

Risks: The researchers do not foresee any important risks to you for participating in this study, nor do they expect that you will experience any major discomfort or stress.

Compensation: There is no payment for participation in the online portal. At the conclusion of the study you will be fully debriefed via email. You will receive information about the goal of the project and its expected contributions.

Confidentiality: The information you will provide about yourself will be completely confidential. Your data will be assigned a numeric identification code and will have no identifying information. Only the research team will see your de-identified responses. Data from this study will be kept in locked offices and password protected computers. The results from this study may be reported in conference presentations and journal articles. Only averages and general trends among variables will be shown in publications, no personal identifying information will be revealed.

Withdrawal: Participants who begin the study but choose to withdraw prior to its completion will have their data destroyed. Participants may request to leave the study and have their data deleted up until the termination of the study at gender.economy@rotman.utoronto.ca.
